According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has delayed the launch of the redesigned MacBook Air until the second half of the year. In addition, Gurman predicts in his “power on“-Newsletter that the new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will probably not be launched until 2023.

New MacBook Air is likely to come later

In his recent Power On newsletter, Gurman explains that Apple originally planned to launch the new MacBook Air with “an all-new design, MagSafe, the M2 chip and more” in late 2021 or early 2022. That time frame has now apparently shifted to the second half of 2022.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, meanwhile, expects mass production of the new MacBook Air to begin in late second or early third quarters, suggesting the device could launch sometime in September.

Gurman also says he doesn’t expect Apple to update its high-end 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models this year, with an update featuring the “M2 Pro” and “M2 Max” chips most likely coming next year. According to Gurman, the only MacBook Pro update this year will be a refreshed entry-level MacBook Pro with a 13-inch display and the M2 chip.

Most recently, Gurman stated in February that Apple will introduce at least seven new Mac models in 2022. The list included an updated Mac mini with M1 Pro and M2 upgrades, the MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro with M2 chip, an M2 24-inch iMac, a new iMac Pro with M1 Pro and M1 Max, and an Apple Silicon – Refreshing the Mac Pro.
