There are many analysts who comment on Apple, but no other is as respected as Ming-Chi Kuo. Because he probably has the best connection to and around the company from Cupertino, California. Now the expert working for TF International Securities has published his latest information on the latest Apple smartphones and they paint a sobering picture of the iPhone 14 and especially the iPhone 14 Plus.
According to Kuo, the two standard variants of the latest iPhone, which can currently be pre-ordered from 999 euros or 1149 euros, are currently seeing “poor” pre-order numbers compared to the previous model – i.e. the iPhone 13. In contrast, the Pro variants, i.e. iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, run better, here Kuo rates the numbers as “neutral” to “good”.
He explains in a post on mediumThe fact that the waiting times for the Pro models are currently around four weeks is an indication that the more expensive models are more popular than the standard iPhones. It’s currently “unclear”, according to Kuo, whether Apple will reduce production numbers of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in favor of the Pro devices. But that is quite possible or probable, according to the analyst. Another indication that the (comparatively) cheaper iPhone 14 models are not particularly in demand is the fact that they will be easy to find in stores at launch. That “reflects the low demand,” says Kuo.
iPhone 14 Plus is very disappointing
The analyst explains why: “The iPhone 14 Plus is the replacement for the iPhone 13 mini (note: not in terms of size, but as a second model). However, the pre-order result for this new product is significantly lower than expected, which means that Apple’s product segmentation strategy for standard models is failing this year.”
