In the spring of this year, there was a surprising ups and down in the prices for battery replacements for iPhones. At the beginning of March, Apple raised the service fee for the service, only to lower it again two months later (see ). The prices for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, for example, only rose to EUR 87.09, and since May 10 they have been EUR 74.99 again and are therefore at the level that applied before the adjustment. Shortly before the four iPhone 14 models go on sale, Apple has now published the prices for battery replacement for the new devices. If you buy one of the new smartphones from Cupertino and want to change the energy storage at some point, you have to dig much deeper into your pocket than owners of an earlier generation. In this case, the Californian company charges 119.00 euros for the battery service. That is almost 60 percent more than the 74.99 euros that are due for the iPhone X, XS, 11, 12 or 13. As usual, Apple does not make a difference between the different variants, i.e. Pro and non-Pro models. The increase is even more significant compared to the iPhone SE, for example: the company still only charges 55.00 euros for the battery replacement of the cheapest in-house device.
Apple redesigns repair website
At the same time as setting the prices for iPhone 14 battery replacements, Apple announced the Website redesigned where these can be found. The tabular overview that we have been used to for years no longer exists. Instead, from now on you have to select the exact smartphone model and will then be informed about the estimated costs. This of course makes the comparison much more difficult. Apple also reserves the right, according to the text on the site, to determine the final service fee only after reviewing the scope of services. This applies to all devices, so it is not limited to the iPhone 14.
Higher prices in the US too
Incidentally, the higher prices for replacing the battery in the new generation of smartphones do not only apply in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In the US, battery service for the iPhone 14 is $99.00, about 43 percent more expensive than the iPhone 13, which costs $69.00. In the case of a warranty claim or as part of Apple Care+, the battery replacement is of course still free of charge.
