Apple could make the iPhone’s camera much more powerful in the future. This would be made possible by a so-called periscope, which is already being used by other smartphone manufacturers. A corresponding patent was recently granted to Apple.
Apple will probably install a significantly improved camera in future generations of iPhones. To do this, the company could use what is known as periscope technology. Apple recently had an extensive, albeit somewhat unspecific patent from the American Patent and Trademark Office allocated receive.
It describes a small camera arrangement that, thanks to its clever design, achieves performance that only large and unwieldy systems are usually capable of.
Periscope cameras are already in use in the Android camp
Here, light that falls through the lens onto the sensor is refracted several times and guided through the camera assembly along intricate paths. In this way, a space advantage is simulated that does not actually exist. For example, it is possible to implement a significantly more powerful optical zoom, as is the case with Huawei in the models of the P20 Pro and P40 Pro series.
However, Apple could only bring the periscope technology to the iPhone next year, so it would then be used in the iPhone 14. Especially when it comes to optical zoom, Apple is now miles behind the Android competition. The iPhone 13 will probably not bring any fundamental changes here either.
