While the first smartphone manufacturers are already experimenting with displays without a cut-out for the front camera, Apple still uses a huge notch in the iPhone to accommodate the sensors for Face ID facial recognition. Opinions about this aesthetic vary widely, but it can hardly be denied that the look is no longer quite contemporary. If the numerous rumors about the design of the iPhone 14 are true, Apple will put an end to this type of cut-out in the display in 2022 – at least in the Pro models.
Numerous leaks consistently report that the manufacturer is switching from a bulky notch to punched holes at the top of the screen for the next cell phone. If these predictions prove to be correct, two of these so-called punchholes are used: one circular and one pill-shaped, both placed directly next to each other. On previous concept designs, these new sensor openings appear significantly smaller than the recess previously used. In the Chinese network Weibo However, an alleged design scheme of the iPhone 14 Pro display has now appeared that gives the camera holes significantly more space than previously assumed. Compared to previous leaks, the cutouts in the published sketch are more than twice as large.

Well-known leaker confirms surfaced design
In fact, given these dimensions, the gain in space compared to the current design seems only marginal. Where the surfaced display scheme came from remains unclear. The usually well-informed Apple insider Jon Prosser took up the topic on his YouTube channel Front Page Tech However, and according to its own statements, was able to verify that the leak is authentic and that the scheme shown corresponds to reality. Where Prosser got his confirmation from remains unclear and the YouTuber has been wrong with his predictions one or two times. However, if he were right, Apple fans would have gained little with the new design.
Official information about the iPhone 14 is still missing, but the first leaks appeared before the iPhone 13 was released and suggested a completely new design. So far, however, the leaked concept drafts only mention the iPhone 14 Pro. According to speculation, Apple will also give the regular model a notch in the next generation. However, there will probably be certainty about this at the end of the year, when the manufacturer’s new smartphones will actually appear.
