Iphone 14 | iPhone 14 Pro with Always On Display: are we dreaming or is it real? | apple iphone

Apple grabs the top shelves for its smartphones in many areas. But there are also points where Cupertino does not cover itself with glory. The always-on display is one of them. The feature is completely missing. The group apparently wants to eliminate this flaw with the iPhone 14 Pro.

Anyone who has an Android smartphone has been able to use an always-on display (AoD) for many years. And although that feature should not be technical witchcraft and it has always been part of the rumor mill, there is no AoD on the iPhone so far. That could change with the iPhone 14 Pro, Ross Young suspects on Twitter.

Adaptive frame rate from 1 to 120 Hz?

The well-known display analyst only believes that the new Pro models will have that feature. But Young is believed to be more knowledgeable than he cares to let on, presumably not just guessing in the dark. It’s probably just not enough to “confirm” the info.

The background to his assumption could be that a screen refresh rate of 120 Hz is now standard in the high-end segment. With the iPhone 14 Pro, it is expected that the ProMotion display will also be able to variably lower the rate to 1 Hz. With the iPhone 13 Pro (for testing) it is still a variable refresh rate of 10 to 120 Hz. There would then no longer be any reason against an AoD.

Battery life should no longer speak against a feature

The advantage of a 1-H: If a display can minimize the refresh rate almost completely, the screen consumes less power. Adaptive frame rate is handy because some screen content requires more Hertz to display smoothly and such an advantage is irrelevant for other displays, the latter of which includes an always-on display. So if Apple has so far dispensed with an AoD, out of concern that the battery life could suffer too much, then the 1 Hz feature should have done the trick.

At first glance, always-on display doesn’t seem like a big feature, but surveys of the iPhone 13 have shown that users do care about the feature. If the suspicion proves to be true, then Apple should announce the innovation in a big way when presenting the iPhone 14.
