The iPhone 13 has been available for nine months and now the fan community is taking a look at the release of the iPhone 14. What changes, variants and innovations will there be with the update in the coming year?
Release of the iPhone 14, possible pricing and variants
There will be no big surprises with the iPhone 14 when it comes to the release date, as Apple’s latest iPhone is expected in autumn 2022. The iPhone 13 was available for pre-order in September and it will be similar with the iPhone 14.
- It’s not clear if Apple will include enough new features for a new iPhone or if it will be a 13S variant, which has happened several times in the past.
- Another possibility would be that Apple, as with the iPads, does without the number and instead introduces the equipment variant such as Pro, Air or Standard.
- The variants will probably again be a simple version, a pro version and a pro max version. There will probably also be a mini variant.
- In terms of price, the iPhone 14 will probably be in the same range as its predecessor and will start at around 900 euros for the iPhone 14 in the smallest memory variant. The Pro will cost around 1150 euros and the Pro Max will cost 1250 euros.
Appearance and specifications of the iPhone 14
At the moment one can only speculate about the design of features and a lot will happen here before the release of the iPhone 14.
- Many fans and experts hope that the notch at the top of the screen will go away. Instead, there could possibly be a small cut-out for the camera (punch hole) on the more expensive variants.
- Since the notch contains important sensors that are also responsible for FaceID, a return to TouchID would be conceivable in this case. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, this would not happen until 2023 because Apple was struggling with supply bottlenecks in the development and production of under-display TouchID.
- According to analyzes of the new iOS 16, the new iPhone 14 could have an always-on display, which could make information available even when the phone is in standby.
- That would be possible in connection with a new, particularly economical OLED display.
- Many users would be happy if the new iPhone would no longer protrude from the cameras. Since the hardware has some depth, the design would probably be thicker. However, this could also have advantages such as a larger battery or better heat dissipation.
- The cameras will probably be updated, as they have been in recent years.
- It is unclear whether the new iPhone will have a Lightning connector, USB-C connector or no connector at all. Apple had often considered this step, but had not implemented it until now.
- The current iPhone has an A15 Bionic processor. So the successor A16 can be expected here.
