When Apple launches its new iPhone model, expected to be the iPhone 14, in the fall, one of the biggest innovations could be the front camera. At least that is what the renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo goes into in detail online post out. COMPUTER BILD summarizes what Kuo expects for the new iPhone’s selfie camera.
iPhone 2022: New cameras, but not for everyone
Rumor has it that 2022 is coming too four iPhone models, two Pro models and two normal devices – Apple is said to be doing without a new mini model as the successor to the iPhone 13 mini this year and is instead bringing a normal and an XXL version for the standard models. Several rumors also indicate that the iPhone models expected for autumn 2022 will only have major improvements in the form of new high-resolution sensors (48 instead of 12 megapixels) in the more expensive Pro versions. But one camera should change on all iPhone 14 models: the front camera.

What is changing with the iPhone front camera?
Ming Chi Kuo sees the autofocus, which is installed for the first time, as the most important improvement to the front camera. Even with the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro, despite the improved selfie photo quality, there was only one fixed focus area – usually no problem for selfies with an outstretched arm, but not ideal for other uses of the front camera, such as on a tripod. The autofocus allows sharp images for various purposes and at the same time enables targeted blurring for background objects (bokeh effect). It could also potentially improve cinematic selfie videos and allow for the use of larger camera sensors.
Better photos thanks to more lenses
According to Kuo, the switch to a six-lens lens for the front camera should ensure better photo quality. This should ensure better sharpness, especially at the edges of the subject. In addition, for the first time since the iPhone 11 (aperture f/2.2), a larger aperture for more light output would be possible – so far, selfies in low light have been a weakness of the iPhone’s front camera. Kuo expects a selfie camera with an aperture of f/1.9, which performs better in low light and could increase the bokeh effect.

Which company makes the front camera?
Apple does not officially reveal this, especially not for upcoming products. However, Kuo assumes that the manufacturers Genius (manufacturer of the six-lens lens) and Cowell have received the order.
