We have the first version of the Vivid app already testedand were able to adjust the screen brightness of a 14 inch MacBook Pro (approx. 1,890 euros on Amazon) even with an all-white picture from 500 to 1,100 nits, only part of the screen becomes white, so the display achieves the peak brightness of 1,600 nits advertised by Apple – even when displaying SDR content.
The app only works with the current 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro based on the M1 Pro and M1 Max and with the Pro Display XDR. Since the power consumption increases with such a screen brightness, it is recommended to disable Vivid when using it in battery mode. This works with a key combination, but there is no option to automatically deactivate Vivid when the power cord is unplugged from the laptop.
