iPhone 14 for 1 euro: What good is this tariff deal?

The iPhone 14 is one of the most expensive smartphones on the market. At Media Markt, the Apple mobile phone with a mobile phone contract is available for as little as 1 euro. Is that really a good offer?

When it comes to the pricing of its products, Apple knows no mercy. The new iPhone 14, for example, already costs a whopping 999 euros in the cheapest configuration. Not everyone wants to shell out that much money for a smartphone. A waiver of the iPhone 14 is therefore not absolutely necessary. In conjunction with a mobile phone contract, the device can already be purchased at a much lower price.

Media Markt: iPhone 14 with a contract for 1 euro

Media Markt, for example, offers the iPhone 14 with 128 gigabytes of internal memory for just 1 euro. However, the offer is only valid in connection with a two-year contract for the o2 Free Unlimited Max tariff. In addition to telephone and SMS flat rates, it offers unlimited data volume in the 5G network and costs 59.99 euros per month.

  • iPhone 14 (128 GB) for 1 euro plus 3.95 euros shipping instead of 999 euros
  • Telephone and SMS flat rate
  • Unlimited data volume in the o2 5G/LTE network (up to 500 Mbit/s)
  • Monthly basic fee: 59.99 euros
  • Connection price: 39.99 euros
  • Minimum contract period: 24 months
  • 100 euros switching bonus when you take your phone number with you

At first glance, the amount of the basic fee takes off your shoes. Just under 60 euros per month sounds like a lot of wood! However, if you offset the total costs of the minimum contract period of EUR 1,484.70 against the value of the mobile phone, things look quite different.

The bottom line is an effective monthly basic fee of 20.24 euros. Already a strong course for unlimited 5G data volume with a speed of up to 500 megabits per second. If you take your phone number with you from the old provider, you can secure an additional 100 euros switching bonus and thus even reduce the basic fee to 16.07 euros. A top price and a top offer for discerning frequent surfers.

Alternative: iPhone 13 Pro Max for 1 euro at o2

The iPhone 14 is too small and does not offer enough features? Then an iPhone Pro Max model is needed. However, the latest version of the 6.7-inch device with a triple camera costs at least 1,449 euros. The predecessor, on the other hand, is currently offered by mobile network provider o2 for 1 euro – even in the version with 256 gigabytes of internal memory! Here, too, the o2 Free Unlimited Max tariff makes the offer possible.

  • iPhone 13 Pro Max (256 GB) for 1 euro plus 4.99 euros shipping instead of 1,369 euros
  • Telephone and SMS flat rate
  • Unlimited data volume in the o2 5G/LTE network (up to 500 Mbit/s)
  • Monthly basic fee: 26.99 euros
  • Monthly rate for mobile phones: 38 euros
  • Connection price: 39.99 euros
  • Minimum contract period: 24 months
  • Payment in installments: 36 months
  • 100 euros switching bonus when you take your phone number with you

Here, too, the high amounts seem overwhelming at first glance, and here too the impression is put into perspective after a short calculation: the minimum contract term in this case is 24 months, but the smartphone is paid for over a period of 36 months. Those who keep the contract for the full three years come to a total cost of 2,385.62 euros.

If you subtract the value of the mobile phone from this amounting to 1,369 euros, the effective monthly basic charge is 28.24 euros. If you take your number with you, there is also a EUR 100 switching bonus here, so that the monthly rate is effectively reduced to EUR 25.46. This is more expensive than the iPhone 14, but there is also a technically much better mobile phone.
