Following the forecasts by leaking expert Jon Prosser regarding retreaded iPhone models for 2022, Bloomberg journalist and Apple insider Mark Gurman is also announcing major changes for the iPhone 14. After the iPhone 13 received only small adjustments to the case compared to its predecessor, Apple is planning extensive design innovations for the iPhone 14, according to Gurman in his weekly Newsletter. In addition, a model that is still available in the iPhone 13 series is to be dropped.

Farewell to the mini model – instead Max variant without “Pro”
According to Gurman, the Cupertino-based company is again planning four models for the next generation of iPhones. But unlike the iPhone 13, the lineup of the iPhone 14 will likely look different as Apple said it’s going away from the mini model, according to Gurman. The iPhone 13 mini would be the last current Apple smartphone with the compact 5.4-inch display for the time being.

Apple instead chose the opposite path. In addition to the two usual Pro variants, there should also be a large Max version for the somewhat cheaper models without the “Pro” suffix. Apple is therefore replacing a particularly small iPhone with a comparatively large device. It is not known whether the future base Max model – like the iPhone 13 Pro Max – will have a 6.7-inch display or whether Apple will also introduce new dimensions for the panel.

iPhone 14 for with major design changes
In addition to the innovations in the iPhone lineup, prospective buyers of the iPhone 14 can also expect major design changes for the 2022 models. Gurman speaks of a “complete redesign”. With the iPhone 13, Apple has opted for a product maintenance upgrade with a few clear innovations, since the major design changes and additional features expected for the iPhone 14 still need time. The time window for this year’s iPhone was too short for that.

Display notch may fall away
A few weeks ago, Prosser published many details about the appearance and features that Apple is likely to bring to the iPhone 14. These include, among other things, a new housing design, an omitted display notch (possibly only with the Pro models) and larger batteries. A periscope camera is also conceivable, although Apple has not yet decided on this. Other rumors recently named the iPhone 15 as a more likely candidate for a corresponding camera.
